Julie Pfluger – Celebrating 20 Years
Julie Pfluger is celebrating 20 years at Community Bank! Starting her journey as a bank teller, Julie’s commitment and hard work have propelled her to her current role as the Internal Processing Supervisor. We are fortunate to have Julie as a member of our Community Bank family, and we’ve been privileged to witness the wonderful contributions she has made at the Grantsburg branch. Keep reading to learn more about Julie’s years at the bank and a memory she will never forget:
Do you remember your first day with Community Bank? I remember feeling very welcomed by the staff and customers. Having grown up in Grantsburg and working at various retail jobs in town, I already knew most of the staff and many of the customers. Having an accounting background, working with numbers came easy to me, but the banking world was completely different from anything I had done before. The lobby was fast-paced with a steady line of customers and endless phone calls. I remember being impressed with the knowledge and skills of my co-workers. I quickly learned working as a teller was a challenging job. I went home mentally exhausted but was excited to return and master the new skills that were required of me.
What has changed since you started? Technology has evolved tremendously. When I first started, online banking was very new. Not many people used this service and did not receive their statements electronically. The bank did not have a fancy statement-stuffing machine yet, so between helping customers, we would fold statements, stuff them in envelopes, and get them in the mail within a day so customers could balance their checkbooks, which is also a thing of the past for most.
With the advancements in technology and new services the bank offers comes the opportunity for advancement. I started my banking career working as Teller. After mastering those skills, I was trained in account opening, eventually moving permanently to the bookkeeping department. My current position is Supervisor of our Internal Processing department. This has been an exciting and rewarding opportunity for me.
What do you enjoy most about Community Bank? Working with amazing people. I am proud to work for a company that looks out for their employees and customers. We are like a big community family. I have met so many interesting and wonderful people throughout the years. It has been meaningful to watch customers grow and succeed in their lives. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than when a customer you have known for years calls with their concerns, and you are able to assist them while setting their mind at ease.
Share a memory you’ll never forget. When I started at the bank, I worked in the Siren Branch. Tim Gerber started a few months before me, so we were a couple of greenhorns learning the ropes. When we get together, we still laugh about crazy things that happened. (Sorry, I can’t share those stories).
Ted and Kelly went on vacation for a week. The day after they left, Burnett County was hit hard by the July 1st windstorm. What a mess our town was. I remember going to work several times over the weekend so the phone company could get us up and running. The staff all pulled together, and everything worked out fine, but we all agreed Ted and Kelly should not go on long vacations anymore. They did not agree.
Thank you, Julie, for your dedication and hard work over the years! We’re excited to see what the next 20 years hold for you!
